WTF, BTW

What is UP with all these damn people looking to hire via the classifieds? The ones who want you to email your resume into them, but they never once respond to let you know they got it or they're considering or the position has been filled? Seriously, is it so damned hard to set an auto-responder to say "We got your application and will get back to you whenever," or "Sorry dude, the position has been filled"?

Seriously. This is a crap economy. At least have the decency to acknowledge you received my resume.

DUDE.

  1. Huh, are you EVEN kidding me? I actually had to send the following as a response to a company that sent me a rejection two months late. It's long, but it's worth reading, just so you can at least see some other reasons why the job market is as it is:

"I am sorry that I did not get an opportunity to participate in the interviewing process, as I feel I would have been a welcome asset to your company. However, while a telephone interview was scheduled, the appointment was not kept by your representative.

"I understand, from the representative's only phone call to me (half an hour AFTER the scheduled time of the original interview) that he was needed to solve some sort of service problem at a [name of company]location, and I should call him back in half an hour. I did so, and received his voicemail. I left a message offering to reschedule AROUND HIS AVAILABILITY, which message he did not return. I then sent a follow-up email to another [name of company]representative (whom I met at the Las Vegas Job Fair), asking him to investigate the status of the original position if possible. Not receiving a reply from him, either, I therefore accepted another position with a different company.

"I can understand if it was decided that I was not a good candidate for the position, but I have trouble understanding how anyone can know this when they never bothered to speak to me beyond scheduling an interview that never took place, through no fault of my own. I never heard back from your company until now. I never received an apology nor an acknowledgment of the fact that my time was wasted both in applying for the position and in preparing for the appointment (for which I was on time, and for which I kept my day free in case I did, eventually, receive a call back) that was never even officially canceled.

"The fact that a service problem precluded a staff member of your company from being able either to conduct a scheduled interview or to have time to return my messages reflects badly upon your product, and the fact that no one had the courtesy to inform me until now that no interview would ever take place reflects very badly upon the company's professionalism.

"I do wish you much success in the future, and I extend congratulations to the candidate who has been selected to fill the position."
